Boundary vs Drawing

Acres utilizes boundaries and drawings in different ways. Read on to learn the difference and when to use which.

Both Boundaries and Drawings will show up in your Selections Panel. Learn more about how to make a selection here: Make A Selection 

Boundaries 

  • Includes Parcel Boundaries (set and attached to owner information), FSA Boundaries (set and defined by the Farm Service Agency), and Custom Boundaries (editable shapes either uploaded, drawn, or converted).
  • Displayed in the selections panel under Boundaries.
  • Acreage is captured and calculated.
  • Able to capture insights such as elevation or soil score.
  • Can be used as a search area (learn how here).
  • The border color will be the same across all boundaries (learn how to change your boundary color here).

Drawings

  • Includes shapes, points of interest, lines, and text blocks — all of which are editable.
  • Displayed in the selections panel under Drawings.
  • Able to hide/show individual drawings by clicking the eye icon.
  • Acreage is measured within shapes but not added to your total calculated acres. 
  • Border color and fill color can be edited individually.
  • Can edit the Title and add a description and images.
