Find the Source of a Data Layer
Find out where the data for the layer that you are using comes from
As you start working on the Acres plat map, you will need to use various data layers.
“Layers” refers to different types of map overlays or datasets you can turn on/off, which augment a base map with extra information.
Acres provides a Layer Library consisting of local, county, state, federal, and proprietary datasets that you can view within your account. This article will help you find the source of a data layer.
To get started, get to the left hand side of the acres platform and scroll down to the “Layers” tab on the left hand menu and click.
With Layers open, you will be able to see the list of layers available. (You can see the layers “Railroads” and “Wind Turbines” in the image above.)
If you want to see the source of information for a data layer, click on the layer tile. (Railroads, in this example).
Once you click the specific layer tile, you will be able to see the three tabs (Data, Appearance, Details) on the top half of the left-hand side of the screen, with the actual layered map on the right side.
When you click on Details you will be able to see the data source and the source url.
Knowing the data source of the layers will go a long way in appreciating the credibility of the data, understanding the utility of the information and being able to use it in the right context.
