GIS Acres vs Courthouse Acres
Why are there two types of Acres listed on the mortgage data?
When you click on mortgage data, you’ll see two types of acres listed — GIS and Courthouse.
There may be a discrepancy between the two measurements. Here is the difference between the two:
- Courthouse / Tax Acres - This is what the county tax assessor has on file as the acreage. If this information is wrong or out of date, the best place to start is with contacting your local assessor’s office.
- GIS Acres - Calculated using modern satellite imagery
Note: Acres can also be measured by Survey Acres, which are conducted using modern tools conducted on the ground at the property. You won’t see this explicitly listed on Acres, but these can be used to update county records.
